PAYMENTS FOR DEATH OF A WORKER

Compensation is payable where a worker dies as a result of a workplace injury.  This can be from:

  • A sudden workplace fatality

  • A physical injury that later leads to death

  • Complications from treatment for a work injury

  • A psychological injury that results in death

The payments that can be made include:

  • Funeral expenses

  • The costs of transporting the worker's body to the worker's usual place of residence in Australia (or appropriate place for burial or cremation)

  • Weekly payments to the worker's dependent children.

  • A lump sum to be apportioned between dependent family members who were wholly or partially dependent on the worker for support (or paid to the legal personal representative if there were no dependents).
